Fall 2019 / Winter 2020 Skincare Regimen (Daytime)

Your daytime skincare routine is just as important as your nighttime! While they focus on different things, they both rely heavily on having a strong moisturizer moment. The goal for your daytime skincare routine is anti-aging. Most of the signs of aging are due to the bright sun causing free radicals in your skin and producing toxic byproducts. We don’t want toxicity in our lives, so let’s aim to minimize them. Check out my list below for what I use every morning during the fall and winter seasons:

1)    Water: my first cleanser of the day! I am a nighttime shower-er, so I do my cleanser and scrub in the shower at night. When I wake up in the morning, I just use a washcloth to wipe off any oils and morning grime. You don’t need an actual cleanser, and a lot of the time, I found that using a cleanser twice a day left my skin completely dry and flaky. Since I accumulate a majority of my dirt during the day, using the cleanser at night gets rid of it all. So by the morning, all I have is a bunch of good bacteria growing on my face. Thanks, Mother Dirt!

2)    Serum: Anthony Skincare High Performance Vitamin C Serum. I’ve mentioned before how Vitamin C is incredible for fighting free radicals (science moment: vitamin C acts like a lightning rod for the free radicals and takes all of their energy so your skin doesn’t take the grunt of the work). This is a lightweight clear gel that spreads super easily. One pump is just the right amount for my face. No scent here, and it really has even coverage. I can’t even feel anything once it soaks into my skin.

3)    Moisturizer: Elementary Balancing Moisturizer. Yup, it’s the same one that I use in my nighttime routine as well. I love this because it is light enough to use in the morning without giving me a shine, but still moisturizing enough to quench my skin. I never have any dry skin throughout the day leaving me feeling suboptimal. It’s scent free and absolutely lovely feeling!

4)    Sun Protection: Yon-Ka SPF25. Normally, I would say the higher the better for SPF because you can never have too much! I feel like SPF 25 is good enough for my routine because I spend the majority of my days locked up in lab, so I am not seeing ANY sun. I just have it on for my commute to work (but not from. Thanks a lot, daylight savings!). This SPF is a chemical barrier that prevents UV damage. It synergizes with your Vitamin C serum, both of them acting to help you prevent aging and wrinkles. I do think that this SPF leaves me shinier than I would have liked, but I come back to it because I have not had any adverse reactions to it. Will I purchase it again? I’m not sure if I would because I want to try out a lot of other SPF products before I commit again since this bottle lasts forever. But I want to find something that kills the shine. My combo skin really glows when I have this on, but in a bad way…

5)    Under Eye Cream: Jesse Jimz Triple Shot. This little caffeine eye cream jumpstarts my day. It is super smooth. In contrast to my nighttime eye gel, this one has caffeine which I feel helps me wake up, even if it is a little placebo to it. I just really like to have my skin looking as perky as possible when I start my day. You have to start off on the right foot to set yourself up for success!

6)    Fragrance: Dior Sauvage. Fragrance is option, of course. And you should NEVER overpower yourself with it. All of the other products here are fragrance-free, so you don’t need to worry about complementary scent profiles here. But I like this scent because it just feels classy. I don’t know much about perfumes, so I won’t lie. I am always the guy at Sephora smelling (literally) a million testers to find out what I like the best. This suits my tastes though!

7)    Lip balm: Chapstick. This Chapstick is two things: moisturizing and SPF. Yes, your lips need SPF! For the same reason as your skin needing SPF, you can get sunburn on your lips! If your lips can get sunburn, you can bet that they can also accumulate those free radicals. Lips are oftentimes forgotten about in a skincare routine because they look so different from the rest of your skin. But really, lips are still your skin. Treat them well, butter em up. Your partner will thank you for having supple lips, trust me.

Go on and show off your radiant face to the world! What are your daytime skincare routine must-haves? Let me know!
